Etymology[edit]
From Malay boleh + -land, where the root comes from the expression in Malay Malaysia Boleh (“Malaysia can [do it]”), ultimately from Malay boleh. The term was based on politicians using the previous phrase while failing to resolve various problems in Malaysian society.
