Luxembourgish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Middle High German briutegome, from Proto-West Germanic *brūdigomō. The form yielded older Luxembourgish *Bräidigem, (contracted) *Bräitchem. Compare obsolete Bräitchen m (bridegroom). Folk etymology then reformed or enhanced this as Braut (bride) +‎ -chen (diminutive suffix) +‎ Mann (man).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈbʀæˑɪ̯t͡ɕəˌmɑn]
