Templates used to show declension tables for Russian nouns.


The categorization is based on the classification of Zaliznyak.

The primary classification of nouns is by the final consonant of the stem:

  1. Stem ending in a hard consonant.
  2. Stem ending in a soft consonant.
  3. Stem ending in a velar consonant (г, к or х).
  4. Stem ending in a hushing consonant (ж, ш, ч or щ).
  5. Stem ending in ц.
  6. Stem ending in a vowel, except и.
  7. Stem ending in и.
  8. The traditional "third declension", consisting of:
    • Masculines and feminines with nominative in , genitive in (the so-called "i-stems").
    • Neuters with nominative in , genitive in -ени (the so-called "n-stems").

Further classification is by accentuation type:

  • a : Accent always on the stem.
  • b : Accent always on the ending, or on the final syllable of the stem when there is no ending.
  • c : Accent on the stem in the singular, on the ending in the plural.
  • d : Accent on the ending in the singular, on the stem in the plural.
  • e : Accent on the stem in the singular and nominative plural, on the ending in all other plural cases.
  • f : Accent on the stem in the nominative plural, on the ending in the singular and in all other plural cases.
