Category talk:Dutch terms suffixed with -nis

I suggest to add the words:

• begrafenis;
• ontvangenis;
• verdoemenis;
• vergiffenis;
• vuilnis;

but I myself do not seem to be able to add them through the edit environment.

Editing the category itself won't do what you want. You could add [[Category:Dutch words suffixed with -nis]] to each of those entries, except some of those entries don't exist yet, and others are already in the category. Once that is added to the entry, the entry automatically shows up in the list for the category. A better way to do it can be seen in the etymology section for vergiffenis: "From {{suffix|vergeven|nis|lang=nl}}". The {{suffix}} template gets the name of the suffix from the second parameter and gets the language name from "lang=nl", then adds the result: "[[Category:Dutch words suffixed with -nis]]" to the entry. It's almost always better to use the template because any general changes in category names can be done by a single edit to the template instead of edits all the entries in the category, and the {{suffix}} template also adds nicely-formatted text to the etymology section.

The tricky part is making sure that the terms actually contain the suffix and aren't -is added to a word ending in n, or something like that. I don't know the language, but that doesn't look like it's true here. In general, though, it happens a lot, so I thought I'd mention it for future reference. Chuck Entz (talk) 23:37, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
