This can't possibly include all words[edit]

This is because, in some dialects(for example, the Appalachian dialect[south United States]), "a-" is/was extremely productive, and pretty much every verb that can take "-ing" can also take "a-", and a phrase like "I'd have been" can be shortened like "I'd a-been". I'm not sure that those should be included- they're not lexically part of the term, but an independent particle attached to the verb, or perhaps an inflectional prefix. For instance, would anyone say "*I'll a-walk" or "*he a-says"? Chuck Entz (talk) 21:18, 1 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
