From New Latin chīlomastix, from Ancient Greek χεῖλος (kheîlos, “lip”) + μάστιξ (mástix, “whip, scourge”).

- A taxonomic genus within the family Retortamonadidae – pear-shaped, flagellated protozoans that usually occur commensally in the intestines of various vertebrates and includes one (Chilomastix mesnili) occurring as a nonpathogenic parasite in the cecum and colon of humans.
