Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
First attested as quoidthusen in 1325. Compound of Middle Dutch quoit (“bad, small”) (perhaps used here in the rare sense swampy) and the dative plural form of huis (“house”). The reading of the first element as kot (“shack, cottage”) is erroneous.
See also Central Franconian Kotteze.
