Cypraea +‎ -oidea.

  1. A taxonomic superfamily within the order Littorinimorpha – the cowries and allied species of marine gastropods.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Previously named Cypraeacea.
    • Current ICZN rules require the suffix -oidea to be used for invertebrate superfamily names.
    • The suffixes -acea and -aceae had previously sometimes been used for such names. (The former is common in older gastropod literature.)
    • The suffix -oidea was sometimes used for subclasses and superorders - examples can still be found.
