DJ copy (plural DJ copies)

  1. A copy of a single sent out to disc jockeys, having the B-side either blank or duplicating the A-side.
    • 1966 May 14, Billboard, page 10:
      On the Brass' next single, the company is considering sending out DJ copies with one song on both sides.
    • 1974, Robert E. Runstein, Modern Recording Techniques, page 309:
      On DJ copies of singles, the "plug" side or A side is usually recorded in stereo on one side and in mono on the other side.
    • 1982, Journal - Association for Recorded Sound Collections:
      The second side will be blank, not a duplicate of the hit side as many DJ copies have.
