Etymology[edit]
New Latin, from Ancient Greek δίκτυον (díktuon, “net”) (from δικειν (dikein, “to throw”), from Proto-Indo-European *dik-skos-, from Proto-Indo-European *déyḱti (“to show, point out”)) + Ancient Greek πτερόν (pterón, “wing”).
Proper noun[edit]
Dictyoptera
- A taxonomic cohort within the supercohort Polyneoptera.
- (Dictyoptera f) A taxonomic genus within the family Lycidae – the net-winged beetles.
Usage notes[edit]
- Cohort and superorder are both used to characterize the group within Polyneoptera, with little practical difference.
