Etymology[edit]

From the Día de los Reyes (literally day of the kings), celebrated in some Spanish-speaking countries on January 6 every year. On this day, the Reyes Magos (wise men, literally magic kings), are said to give presents to children, equivalent to Santa Claus’s gift-giving celebrated on December 25.
