Etymology[edit]

Hindi गुप्ता (guptā) - possibly derived from Sanskrit गोप्तृ (goptṛ, guardian), or possibly also from Sanskrit गुप्त साम्राज्य (Gupta Sāmrājya, Gupta Empire), the name of an ancient Indian empire which existed from approximately 320 to 550 CE and covered much of the Indian Subcontinent.
