Etymology[edit]
Superfically Sino-Vietnamese word from 鴻 (“proper noun”) and 嶺 (“mountain”).
The name of the mountain range is a tên chữ and a mix between a translation and a phonetic matching of the tên Nôm rú Hống (“Hống mountain”) and ngàn Hống.
The town name is taken from the name of mountain range.
