Etymology[edit]

The etymology of Ilgaz comes from the ancient name (´Ολγασσυς). Which was also described by ancient geographer Strabo that έστινδ o Ολγασσυς ορος σφό'ρα υψηλόν καί δύσβατον και ιερά τοϋ ορού τουτου πανταχου.. .) translated as (Olgassys mountain is very high and difficult and sacred to the mountain of all.)
