Etymology[edit]

From Russian Итуру́п (Iturúp), itself from Ainu エツ゚ヲロㇷ゚シㇼ (Etuworop-sir, island with many capes). Doublet of Etrof, from the Japanese rendition of the same Ainu toponym.
