  1. (archaic) A formerly used order of mammals, including the members of the order Eulipotyphla (solenodons, hedgehogs, gymnures, desmans, moles, and shrew-like moles, and true shrews) as well as three other families of the former order Insectivora: Chrysochloridae, Tenrecidae, and Potamogalidae.
