Borrowed from Spanish Marruecos, from Medieval Latin Marocum, from Arabic مَرَّاكُش (marrākuš, “Marrakesh”), the name of the former capital, from Berber ⴰⵎⵓⵔ ⵏ ⴰⴽⵓⵛ (amur n akuc, literally “Land of God”).
