MediaWiki talk:Recentchangestext

Strange, this is the only page in the Wiktionary namespace listed in Special:Allpages. - Patrick 20:18, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Could any admin please move this to MediaWiki:recentchangestext? It seems as special:recentchanges includes from that page in this new MediaWiki 1.4, but all pages in MediaWiki namespace are protected so I can't make the move. \Mike 15:31, 22 Dec 2004 (UTC)

That's odd. I've moved the page, but for me at least, the generic text still shows up when I click on Recent changes! — Hippietrail 01:04, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Please get new requests from Special:Wantedpages[edit]

Hippietrail, since you seem to be one of the select few who can edit this page, I have a respectful request. Could you pull new requests from the end of Special:Wantedpages - i.e. non-existant pages that already have over 20 other pages linking to them? Or is Special:Wantedpages an artifact from an older version, and no longer updated? If not, perhaps it too could be linked in the View Source section? --Connel MacKenzie 16:30, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Odd, the page isn't protected. Can you tell me what happens when a non-sysop tries to edit it? My sentiment is that anybody should be able to edit the list of words here. I just do it for a bit of fun because few other people have been doing so. Mostly when I look at Wantedpages I get bored wading through all the Japanese hiragana entries and just add words I see in red in various pages, words I've seen used in talk pages that aren't defined; sometimes I pick random words from the list of undefined words. — Hippietrail 12:02, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)
The page does in fact seem to be protected.

Would you like me to e-mail you a screen shot?
P.S. The next few "most linked" non existant English entries are: exercise, continue, rush, post, movement, fashion, examine, voiceless, search keyword, posterior, plain, particular, neither, lower, improve, gentle, fort, fault (that's it for entries linked 20 times or more.)
--Connel MacKenzie 21:07, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hmm thanks. No need for a screenshot, I realised all I had to do was log out, test, and log back in again. I'm going to ask on IRC and/or the developer mailing list and see if we can get this unprotected or find another way to make at least the words needing definitions section editable by everyone in whatever way. — Hippietrail 01:29, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Cool! The devs on IRC told me to make the part I wanted globally editable into a template. I've done this, it's accessible at Wiktionary:Wanted entries. Please feel free to add any new words from any source to the template. Just don't delete anything that's already there unless it's vandalism etc.

Oh shoot. I just re-read this, after deleting a couple entries that were complete (to see that it worked as expected.) Now that both lists have requests stacked up, I think I'd better just lay low for a little while. --Connel MacKenzie 08:36, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately there is a rendering glitch. The line of requests is a few pixels lower than the rest and looks a bit ugly. I'm working on that now. — Hippietrail 01:47, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Cool indeed! Thank you. However, I wonder about the wisdom of making such a very-front-pagish page editable by all. I guess that truly is the spirit of wiki. But the developers must have protected it for a reason.
Regarding my request for words appearing on Special:Wantedpages, perhaps they merit their own separate line? Or is that portion of screen pixels too coveted? --Connel MacKenzie
Not so many people have been editing that section so just jump in and I think you'll get plenty of chance to add all the stuff you want! — Hippietrail 05:30, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Done. Awaiting the resulting fireworks/flamewar. (I still think it might look better to say "Most Linked:" underneath "Requests:" and probably therefore have a separate template as well...formatting would be much easier, and it would look like it actually belongs there, instead of a band-aid-ish patch.)
Or course, this also opens a can of worms. "1,000 words every wiki should have" will probably soon have IT'S own line here as well. And the esteemed 'Richardb' table. It's not that those are bad things - it's just that eventually, the screen 'll run out of room. --Connel MacKenzie 07:43, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The more I think about it, the more I think these two things (and perhaps the variants listed above) should have separate templates, linked separately from MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. I've experimented a little at User:Connel MacKenzie at the bottom of that front page (not the talk page.) If cleanup here is done, it would probably be more prudent to separate the Requested articles into Requested articles, Most linked undefined articles, Definitionless words, Stubbed articles and Basic undefined words. Of course, then they'd each need a separate line and probably someone willing to focus on each one. Some of the previous categories have less than a hundred wanted entries, so they in theory shouldn't last too long (famous last words.) What do you think? --Connel MacKenzie 19:00, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Malayalam[edit]

Hi,

Can someone add a link to ml:Special:Recentchanges ? Thanks. Yann

Fix[edit]

You need to change Projects to Projects. 24 00:28, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Done. Thanks. {Scratches head - why on Earth would 'pedia break that link?} --Connel MacKenzie 00:54, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

icelandic rc[edit]

Hello, please could you add a link to the recent changes of the icelandic wiktionary http://is.wiktionary.org/wiki/Kerfissíða:Recentchanges

Many thanks in advance, greetings --Spacebirdy 19:59, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Nynorsk link is also needed. Jon Harald Søby 20:01, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-paste:

nn:Spesial:Recentchanges
mt:Special:Recentchanges
Also on the Main Page please, --birdy (:> )=| 21:18, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Added here, adding to main page next. - Amgine/talk 02:32, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! Please could you change is:Kerfissíða:Recentchanges on Main Page to is:Forsíða or just is:, because I think it would be better to link to the icelandic Main Page (forsíða) from the en Main Page, thanks you very much, --birdy (:> )=| 09:56, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see that problem, so I assume it was resolved. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 01:11, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Greek Wiktionary[edit]

I've noticed that Greek Recentchanges doesn't seem to be linked on the RecentChanges page. Is there a reason for this? Can it be added?--Brandnewuser 00:07, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not aware of any specific reason it was excluded. The list of "recent changes" pages is at MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. I guess we should add a link to el:Ειδικό:Recentchanges titled "Ελληνικά"? Rod (A. Smith) 07:54, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the delay, Brandnewuser. I was kind of waiting for some validation that '"Ειδικό" means "special", but come to think of it, there's no such need. Instead, I added the link ([1]) and added ([2]) the stub entry "ειδικό" (with ttbc, of course). Rod (A. Smith) 22:16, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Projects line?[edit]

Do we need the Projects line? These links exist on Main Page in the sister-projects section. I don't see how they are relevant to recent changes patroling? --Connel MacKenzie 01:03, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They do seem irrelevant. Recommendation: Be bold. (Funny how that phrase never seems hackneyed.) Rod (A. Smith) 04:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That would be the one I would call least useful, I wouldn't mind it being removed/replaced. - TheDaveRoss 04:26, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 01:11, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

'Patrol Anons' link[edit]

Could someone please make the 'Patrol Anons' link protocol-relative? Using Patrol Anons would do the job. --Whym (talk) 06:19, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not exactly sure if that makes a difference (I guess I don't understand), but I did it anyway. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 01:02, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for being unclear. The code I wanted to have there is:
[ Patrol Anons]
fullurl will choose https:// or http:// accordingly to the protocol you use. --Whym (talk) 01:34, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I didn't know which kind of protocol you were referring to. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 02:25, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the fix! By the way, "protocol-relative" is a kind of jargon in a wide use. We might want to have an entry for the term. ;) --Whym (talk) 02:54, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't that SOP? It's just relative to protocol. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 02:56, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe so, if the suffix -relative is that productive. Being nonnative, I guess I shouldn't venture here. --Whym (talk) 03:05, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a suffix, exactly - or maybe it is. Hard to explain it; we treat hyphenated terms like two separate words here. By the way, your English is excellent. If I were to rate you, I would give you en-3 or en-4, and I really think you ought to upgrade your BabelBox. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:35, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(Very late reply to the offtopic part) thanks, but I'll go with en-2 for some more time. Subjectively, I cannot consider myself having the ability to write articles in this language without difficulties.--Whym (talk) 13:25, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@AryamanA Please add this link. — Bukhari (Talk!) 13:35, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This link is not of the same form as the others (which use the English-language "Special:Recentchanges" name and reply on the site software to redirect to the local-language name), and moreover I expect that every wiki has a RecentChanges page, so I am unsure if there are criteria for deciding which ones to link to and have asked at Wiktionary:Grease pit/2018/February#MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. - -sche (discuss) 05:49, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the list to provide the same languages, using the same cutoff, as the Main Page. - -sche (discuss) 18:39, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
