Etymology[edit]

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

Proper noun[edit]

Morganucodonta f

  1. A taxonomic order within the clade Mammaliaformes – extinct basal Mammaliaformes, including some that are ancestors of all modern mammals.

Usage notes[edit]

The question of whether Morganucodonta should be regarded as mammals or as Mammaliaformes (and ancestral to mammals) is still subject to debate. Proponents of the latter view restrict Mammalia to the crown group of all modern mammals. For more detail, see Morganucodonta § Classification on Wikipedia.Wikipedia
