Etymology[edit]
In a letter from 1345 spelled as ⟨Odenssall⟩ (accusative); from Old Norse Óðinssalr, from Óðinn + salr. It has also been suggested that the true form is Óðinsalr and derived from a word related to Gothic 𐌰𐌻𐌷𐍃 (alhs, “temple”).[1]
