Orphic egg (plural Orphic eggs)

  1. (historical) A ovoid vessel formerly used by alchemists for sublimation; an aludel.
    • 1936, Rollo Ahmed, The Black Art, London: Long, page 130:
      The vessel used for containing the necessary substances was egg-shaped; the matrix, or Orphic egg, which is found at the base of all initiations.
