  • (Zuid-Holland) First attested as oude watheringhe in 1280-1287. Derived from Middle Dutch out (old) and wateringe (drainage channel). The element oud was added to distinguish the settlement from Nieuwe Wetering.
  • (Overijssel) First attested as die olde weteringe in 1426. Derived from Middle Dutch out (old) and wateringe (drainage channel). The element oud was added to distinguish the settlement from Nieuwe Wetering.
