Borrowed from Ancient Greek Φραόρτης (Phraórtēs), itself from Old Persian 𐎳𐎼𐎺𐎼𐎫𐎡𐏁 (f-r-v-r-t-i-š, “Fravartiš”, literally “guardian angel”).
