Etymology[edit]
New Latin, from Ancient Greek πῦρ (pûr, “fire”) + γλύφω (glúphō, “to carve”) + -ος (-os, nominal suffix), referring to eczema caused by the arthropod, characterized with intense itching and a red rash.
