From Quad- + the common Rhenish suffix -rath (“clearing”). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Is the first component MHG "quât", Dutch "kwaad" for "bad"?”)
