Etymology[edit]

From *zá (one) + *ḱə́ (thousand). The semantics of the last element, unfortunately, remain unconfirmed, if at all such a division corresponds to reality. If still not, then it should be reconstructed *zəḱə́, with an incompletely clear etymology.
