Etymology[edit]

From older *meśśa, from Proto-Indo-European *memsa- (meat). Compare Armenian միս (mis), Serbo-Croatian meso, Russian мя́со (mjáso), Tocharian B mīsa, Old Prussian mensa, Gothic 𐌼𐌹𐌼𐌶 (mimz), Sanskrit मांस (māṃsá).[1]
