From Proto-Atlantic-Congo. Compare Yoruba (from Proto-Yoruboid *kpú or Proto-Yoruboid *kú ), Igala kwú, Tiv *kpe, Ibibio *kpa, Proto-Jukunoid *kwu-, Proto-Edoid *ghu, Ewe *kuku and Awing *kfu (from Proto-Grassfields *kÚ(a)).
