Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrenǵ- (to draw into one's mouth, sip, gulp), nasalised variant of *dʰreǵ- (to draw, glide). Cognate with Lithuanian drėgti (to become moist), Sanskrit ध्रजति (dhrajati, to glide, swoop).
