Cognate with Proto-Brythonic *koɨd (forest) (Old Welsh coit), Latin bū-cētum (pastureland, literally cow-pasture), Albanian kath (type of wheat), kasht (straw). Possibly further from Proto-Indo-European *kóy-t-os (forest, wasteland, pasture), from *keyt- (to shine).
