Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *gers-. Cognate with Latin garrio (“to chatter”) and Lithuanian gar̃sas (“sound”).
The expected form *kersaną is unattested, the current form with -z- arose by influence of the iterative *kurzōną.[2]
