Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₃r̥ǵi-pth₂-yó-s, from *h₃reǵi- (straight) +‎ *peth₂- (to fly) +‎ *-yós. Possible cognate with Old Armenian արծուի (arcui).[1]
