Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *kʷolpeh₂ (“bend, turn”); cognate with Ancient Greek κόλπος (kólpos, “bosom, womb, hollow space”), Proto-Germanic *hwalbą (“vault, arch”).[1]
