Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from a Middle Iranian language, from Proto-Iranian *nagna-.[1][2] Compare Persian نان (nân) and Baluchi نگن (nagan). From Proto-Permic, the word has spread as a wanderword to other languages in the area.
