Etymology[edit]

Compare with Egyptian sḏm (to hear) and Egyptian smt as well as Central Atlas Tamazight ⴰⵎⵥⵥⵓⵖ (amẓẓuɣ). Apparently unrelated to Proto-Indo-European *swenh₂- (to sound).
