Etymology[edit]

Originally a diminutive form of *ǫtь (duck) +‎ *-ъka (diminutive suffix), perhaps extending back to Proto-Balto-Slavic *ánˀtukāˀ. Cognate with Lithuanian antuka (wader), añtukas (wheatear).
