Etymology[edit]
Onomatopoeic origin. Appeared in Proto-Slavic only after the appearance of the consonant *c. Similar formations that are not cognates in the Baltic languages include Lithuanian càp, càpt, Latvian caps, capt, capst.

- Used to denote the action of quick grasping, grabbing something
- About the sound of lumbering, trudging, ploding in water, mud
