Proto-Uralic[edit]

Reconstruction[edit]

The Western forms meaning 'to burn' have been earlier compared with Proto-Ugric *paĺɜ- (to freeze) (whence e.g. Hungarian fagy), while the Eastern forms have been treated as variants of *pala (bit). The connections presented here follow Aikio (2016).

Verb[edit]

*pala-

  1. to devour, eat
  2. (Finno-Mordvinic) to burn
