Semi-learned terms[edit]

How are there semi-learned terms for a word we have no attestations of? Did they have Latin works containing this word that was lost to us? Kwékwlos (talk) 20:41, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

A better solution is to assume that the initial pl- in the Romance descendants that changed it was preserved due to influence from other semantically-related borrowings with pl- coming from attested Latin. Kwékwlos (talk) 21:03, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, 'semi-learned' is quite dubious here. Probably it's meant to point out some not-regular outcomes of initial /pl/, e.g. Venetian or the Portuguese prata. Nicodene (talk) 06:00, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
