Some insights from the -gʰ extension of *dwey-[edit]

It is worth noting that this root also gave rise to *dweygʰ- (to branch) > Germanic *twīgą (twig), Slavic *dvigati (to lift, to move). On this account, its original meaning probably was to impel, to segregate. This could explain both the figurative meaning to fear and the literal nuances such as motion, branching, two-ness. Obviously, this is only a speculation, which lacks direct historical support, yet I thought it should be mentioned at least in the discussion board. Bezimenen (talk) 20:37, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
