Germanic sumaz via two different routes

Germanic sumaz is currently derived from sem- via two different routes: via sḗm ‘one’, and via sem-h₁ ‘dual, couple’. --Caoimhin (talk) 21:30, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Removed *sm̥-ḱm̥tóm > ἑκατόν; regular outcome of syllabic nasals is /a/, not /e/, so this should give hakaton; cf. hamothen etc., and an increasingly popular (albeit similarly unsatisfactory; whence h-?) alternative is *d > *h1 in *dḱm̥tóm > *h1ḱm̥tóm (generally from glottalicists: simply *ʔd > *ʔ). *sem-ḱm̥tóm with loss of first *m due to dissimilation is possible, but didn't add that as I don't know if it's been proposed anywhere. Heteros has the same problem: either the *-m was lost, the syllabic nasal has an irregular outcome, or it isn't related to *sem. Greek "one"

I think it is lacking the number 1 for Greek, masculine heis > *hees > *hẽs > *hens > *sens > *sems, neuter hen > *sen > *sem.--Manfariel (talk) 17:38, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
