The word for Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) in Czech is vyr. This could be related to ancient greek virax for eagle, which ultimately comes from the PIE meaning to hunt.

That's highly implausible. Czech y goes back to a Proto-Balto-Slavic *ū, never *ī. The Czech word would have to be vír for this to work. Czech výr appears to go back to something like Proto-Balto-Slavic *ūras or *ūrus, probably of imitative origin. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 23:09, 19 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Not synonymous[edit]

/*wiHrós/ describes maleness and culturally defined male activity.

/*mon/ describes humanity and human activity without regard to sex or gender.

Conflating these spreads ignorance and leads to sexism 2604:2D80:DE09:D400:409:46F3:8A02:818E 01:20, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
