Basis for *o[edit]

@Chuterix https://oncoj.ninjal.ac.jp/list_of_words_English.html has ito "thread" and not **itwo. So the PJ reconstruction is *itə. Kwékwlos (talk) 12:49, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

FWIW, that ONCOJ list has both ito and itwo. The point of note here is that itwo is only attested in Eastern Old Japanese (EOJ). The word (ito, itwo, thread) appears only once in phonetic man'yōgana anywhere in the MYS, in poem 20.4405 with the spelling (ito₂).
