Middle vowel[edit]

@Kwékwlos, Mellohi!, Suzukaze-c, per Kwéklos's edit comment, is Yaeyama's terminal conjugation form the only basis for reconstructing the medial /-o-/? If so, I don't think this is enough to go on -- terminal forms in Ryukyuan languages have often been formed through fusion with the cognate to Old Japanese 居る (woru). Also, what mechanism would there be for the putative medial /-o-/ in Proto to become /-u-/ in OJP? I see this in a number of our reconstructed forms, sometimes even where all descendants show only /u/ where the Proto has /o/. This seems quite odd. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 20:48, 2 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
