How could *wando lead to *voda? It seems that -an- here should have given nasal -o- instead. Compare *ǫglь, *ǫzъkъ, *dǫbъ, *mǫdrъ, *blǫdъ, *rǫka etc. 188.18.112.39 22:57, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • You are right, but Baltic data clearly shows that the lemma was nasal. One possible explanation is that the cluster *-NCn- in Slavic caused dissimilation and eventual loss of the front nasal. Consider for illustration *ognjь < pIE *h₁n̥gʷnis. Here, we should point that originally *voda was a n/r-stem, which explains where the final -n came from. 5.150.99.73 15:48, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
