Ferret[edit]

How on earth does ferret belong in this list?? It is pronounced /ˈfɛrɪt/, not /ˈfærət/. Both vowels are wrong. Or is there a US pronunciation that I'm not aware of? Widsith 20:26, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Some American accents have a general merger of /ɛr/ and /ær/, and some (not just American) accents have a merger of unstressed /ɪ/ and /ə/. Where these two overlap, "ferret" and "carrot" rhyme. --Ptcamn 20:48, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, it seems a bit strange when the ferret page is already listed under Rhymes:English:-ɛrɪt. Widsith 07:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I see what you've done. Good solution. Widsith 07:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
