Etymology[edit]

The name of the municipality is derived from the name of Saint Emilius (d. 250) and the English toponym Suffolk. The municipality was named after the particular saint in order to honor Émile Quesnel (1837 - 1887), a benefactor of the first settlers of the future municipality.
