Katharevousa?

@Saltmarsh, Xoristzatziki: is this correct? This should be πλοῖον (ploîon), like its Ancient Greek etymon, as far as I know. --Barytonesis (talk) 14:51, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

@Xoristzatziki, Barytonesis I'm sure you're right. That form of the word is common in Modern Greek - however I think that it is probably the MG form derived from Ancient/Katharevousa - but I don't know enough to create an etymology. — Saltmarsh. 16:08, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

@Saltmarsh, Barytonesis This is just an archaic form of πλοίο (hence monotonic). Many words from Ancient Greek or Katharevousa are still in use by old people, scholars or just for emphasizing, and they always are printed in monotonic (where applicable). @Xoristzatziki, Barytonesis That what I was sort of trying to say. There will be a lot of these, how do you think we should describe them? Archaic / Learned (as used by Bikilexiko) / or what. I think it's easiest to link back to the SMG form (as I have done) although there may be a better format/layout.
