(Notifying Atitarev, Cinemantique, Useigor, Wikitiki89, Stephen G. Brown, Guldrelokk, Fay Freak, Tetromino, Per utramque cavernam): How is the ending of this word and similar words (сердце, солнце, деревце, копытце, etc.) in -це pronounced? More like [ца] or [ци]? Benwing2 (talk) 02:18, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Close to unstressed, reduced [ци]. Definitely not [ца]. Tetromino (talk) 04:19, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Benwing2, Tetromino: @Tetromino, are you sure? Most resources would claim it's "ə". No difference from солнце (solnce) [ˈsont͡sə]. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 12:51, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Benwing2, we have already discussed this and we have been using using "pos=n" on the final -е to get the right pronunciation for nouns. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 12:53, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Atitarev, I pronounce the same vowel in дельце and солнце, but a different vowel in солнца. However, I don't know the right IPA symbol to assign to reduced vowels. Tetromino (talk) 15:37, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Atitarev Thanks for your comment. I do remember discussing this before but I'm revisiting it because ruwikt has these terms ending in [-ɪ] instead of [-ə] or [-ɨ]. Benwing2 (talk) 21:30, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Actually, it's ɪ̈, not ɪ. Now I don't remember why I decided it. BTW, did you read a book by Jones & Ward?--Cinemantique (talk) 17:20, 27 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Tetromino, Benwing2: @Tetromino, what you're saying is probably -t͡sɛ (unreduced), which is very common in modern Russian but not easy to confirm with formal resources - [-ə] is older, traditional and casual. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 21:51, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Benwing2: Let's invite @Cinemantique to explain the ruwikt handling of the ending. @Cinemantique, please see Benwing2's comment.--Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад)
