Is this an Iranian borrowing? What is the relation to Azerbaijani kobud, Turkish kaba? Ketiga123 (talk) 01:53, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Ketiga123, the origin is unknown, but because the Armenian is the oldest and explains the sound variation in other languages, the rest are considered Armenian borrowings. Turkish kaba is unrelated. @Crom daba, Räsänen suggests a Mongolic origin for Karakhanid koptak. Is that a good etymology? The Iranian origin would be better: Karakhanid < Iranian > Armenian > Turkish, Azerbaijani, Georgian. --Vahag (talk) 18:50, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Ketiga123, Vahagn Petrosyan Mongolic origin is (formally) impossible, Räsänen only meant to compare it, not derive one from the other. I support the Iranian theory. Crom daba (talk) 11:48, 30 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Great, now we have to find the Iranian source. --Vahag (talk) 12:30, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
